Bulgaria is in Southeastern Europe, surrounded by Romania to the north, Serbia to the northwest, Macedonia to the southwest, Greece to the south, and Turkey to the southeast.  From the Balkan Mountains to the Black Sea, Bulgaria is a beautiful country full of exciting culture and amazing history.

Adopting in Bulgaria

Bulgaria and the US, along with 97 other countries, are part of the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption.  The Hague Convention is an international agreement for adopting between countries.  This makes it easier for us to comply with governmental regulations and it is a safer option when travelling.

Each country has different laws for international adoption.  In Bulgaria, children cannot be adopted internationally until they have reached 6 months old.   This means 6 months is the absolute youngest match we could receive, however healthy infants are rarely available internationally.  Per our home study, we have requested a little girl between the ages of 0-4.  More information about this part can be found on The Why page.
