THE WHY

About 3 years ago, Matthew went on a call at work which involved a little girl.  While trying to console the small, terrified child he wished he could have brought her home and given her the love and life she deserves.  This moment led him to start thinking about adoption.

We talked about it and started looking up information about adopting domestically in the US.  We had a phone interview with a potential agency, but nothing felt right.  Life got busy and we pushed adoption out of our minds.

In the summer of 2017, Matthew mentioned it again.  We talked about it more, prayed about it a lot, and decided to start again.  Megan contacted social services and children's homes from all over the country.  We spoke with people from Yadkinville all the way to Oregon.  Unfortunately, local services required fostering first which would be way too hard, especially with our boys.  Adopting from foster care meant either a young child with severe special needs or an older child.  Between our 3 boys and working full-time jobs we are not able to give a special needs child the attention and care they need and deserve.  We also didn't want to change the birth order of our boys so we wanted the child we adopted to be younger than our three.

WHY BULGARIA?

We had just hosted 2 exchange students and loved the cultural experience so we thought it would be fun to look into international adoption. We researched many agencies and came across a NC agency who specialized in adopting from Poland.  Since one of our exchange students was from Poland we thought it was perfect.  We contacted the agency and during our first phone interview found out that one of the requirements to adopt in Poland is to stay there a minimum of 21 days.  We couldn't swing that with work and didn't want to be that far away from the boys for so long.

Nick, the wonderful operations manager at our agency, told us they also do adoptions from Bulgaria and asked if we wanted to hear more about it.  We knew nothing about Bulgaria, even had to look it up on a map, but everything about Saint Mary International Adoption Agency felt absolutely right.  We instantly felt connected to Nick, Lina and their mission, and everything in my heart kept coming back to their agency.  So we said, sure, tell us about Bulgaria.

In our lines of work, we see so many kids in need of a safe, loving home.

We take so much for granted in our day to day life that many little kids can only dream of having.

We know we can't change things for every child in need, but hopefully we can change it for one.
